Review of The Artist (2011) by Noah N — 22 Feb 2014
The silent film. A genre cinema left behind. Immediately the concept of a silent film in this day and age sounds ridiculous, getting a modern day audience to see a black and white motion picture is a challenge already but take away all dialogue and you have the recipe for a flop.
Luckily for 'The Artist', it's charming characters and the films enthusiastic energy provides the audience with this charismatic and confident picture which is impossible not to love. Following a narrative dealing with the loss of silent cinema and the actors forgotten about that due to the birth of the talkies.
Jean Dujardin is flawless as George Valentin, his screen presence is electic. 'The Artist' is that rare gem of a film that only comes around every so often but when it does it is worth the wait - a film more enjoyable than the majority of modern day talkies!
