Review of The Artist (2011) by Jack C — 10 Jul 2014
Really struggling between 3&1/2 and 4 stars, but the movie is so well made I had to round it up. I had high expectations due to all the hype, but was somewhat let down. Don't get me wrong, the acting is incredible and the concept well executed, it's just that it wasn't as engaging as many reviewers said it was, at least to me.
The beginning is very happy go lucky, but once the conflict begins, you really start to get interested in the story. For no dialogue the acting is phenomenal. So many expressions that seem to have gotten lost over the years in film.
However, the lack of dialogue did irritate me during slow scenes, but it did work in most. Overall, a well crafted love letter to the golden age of silent cinema, but just not super engrossing for me.
