It had some very charming scenes with very likable characters, but it should have done more. They had a twitch of creativity in the middle that could have expanded into something notable. If another big studio silent film had been released within the last 40 years, this wouldn't have been nominated for an Oscar.
Its novelty outshines how little substance is in this story.
