Review of The Artist (2011) by Derek W — 09 Feb 2015
I remeber the first time that I saw this film. I had heard that it was good and it was nominated for an Oscar. When I wanted it at the time, I didn't like it. This was because it was getting so much hype and being called a masterpiece when it was just ok. It even made me hate it in the end. Now that I have come to appreciate film more, I thought that it was a good time for me to rewatch this and see what I think about it.
In all, I thought that this movie was great. I understood everything that was going on and it made me wish that there were more silent films made today. It's good that they actually put words up so you know what they are talking about but you can tell their conversations just from their body language. At times, I found myself trying to read their lips to understand more.
Even though I respect this film even more, I still stand by my word and say that this movie actually didn't deserve to win best picture. Yes, they did something different but that was the year that had a lot of spectacular films nominated such as Hugo, War Horse, The Descendants, Midnight In Paris and The Help. It is a good thing that I rewatched it but I don't think that I would ever see this one again. I might go back and look at some old silent movies.
