Review of The Artist (2011) by Peter A — 23 Jan 2015
On the face of it this is sheer madness! After all, who is going to see a silent black-and-white song-and-dance movie in the twenty-first century? Such a concept is likely to be as popular as war-time rationing. "Get outta' my office and take that mangy dog with you," is likely to be the response from any producer receiving such a pitch.
Just shows what we know. Audiences loved this. Thing is, it is a perfectly executed gem of a film, deserving its five Oscars that included Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor [Jean Dujardin]. You can try if you must, but there is no fault to be found here. It's a triumph!
