Review of The Art of the Steal (2010) by Claudine J — 07 Feb 2011
You know you're onto something when a film starts to make your blood boil & you're not even half-way through. There's non-suspense suspense, if you know what the end is. So many layers of deception--unbelievable! And the discussion goes on, because folks, this is the sad state of humanity, like it or not; we're a crazy bunch of opinionated ignoramuses--like the guy who gets in to see the Barnes and after an *hour* says 'I've seen enough fat ladies, let's go.'--or the president of the Foundation whose eyes gleam when recalling how Princess Di called to thank him for putting together a tour of artworks despite EXPLICIT terms in Barnes' will forbidding such promotions.
Well, what are you going to do? Keep Art for yourself? Who does it belong to? How should it be displayed? How much is it worth? What does 'worth' entail? What is Art? What part does preservation of an historical treatment of Art play in all of this?
Total can of worms. Great film.
