Review of The Art of Getting By (2011) by Lisa C — 09 Mar 2013
I was excited to see what had become of charming, little Freddie Highmore. Ever since Finding Neverland I had pegged him as a child actor that could really make it, even into his adult years.
I don't exactly blame Freddie for the strong disappointment I felt throughout this film. He played the role he was given and pulled off his American accent, though I greatly missed hearing his real voice. Along with his co-star, Emma Roberts, his presence provided the only highlight of this otherwise dull and plodding story.
It was one of those movies where you kept expecting something more. You expect it to impart some lasting wisdom, to leave a deep impression - but that moment never comes. The ending feels empty and you're left questioning the point.
I hope that Highmore's career isn't halted by this lackluster roadblock.
