Review of The Art of Getting By (2011) by Mimi S — 22 Apr 2013
This is a rather bland boy meets girl story. There is no chemistry between the leads, there's more chemistry between two planks of wood. This film is also poorly acted; Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts aren't any good. Freddie Highmore was charmless and dull, certainly nothing to write home about. The film is about a fatalistic teenaged boy George (Highmore) who has no motivation to do anything with his life and never does his school work, then he meets Sally (Roberts) who changes his perspective on life. There's only ever any chemistry and romance towards the end of the film, the first part of the films seems like Sally is just chasing a guy who doesn't appear interested in her. It was kind of sweet at the end, but still not a very strong film. This film is just bland and there's nothing inspiring about it.
Grade: D.
