Review of The Art of Getting By (2011) by Ricky T. Z — 09 Mar 2012
I am so sorry Gavin Wiesen actually wasted all this fantastic, describing his own words:''Cool, odd, old and magic spots'' from NY City to make such a movie in which the ''weird'' guy or anti-social always end up with the popular-dream-slutty girl and she stay with him no matter what.
Many teenagers may have been through this situation in high school, the so called ''Satre syndrome'' in which you start making questions about the direction of your life, the sense life haves, what's the actual point of everything we do,etc.Freddie Highmore did a great job in being an inexperienced, innocent guy(you know those ones who have never drink, kiss or have sex ever!) first by the lack of emotion shown in his face and second cause he still has this childish face we all remember from ''August Rush'';but yet still it was a way to odd and complex character but he managed to transmit it in the movie.
It's not the first time Emma Roberts play the part of the beautiful-dream girl who ends up with the protagonist, she's way too obvious in playing also the emotional-sensitive(this time she had this huge face saying''I FEEL GUILTY) part, and is not that she's a bad actress, but she need a better method or judgement in picking the movies she's in because what might help for her career is something demanding and that actually makes her sweat of stress by the complexity of the character, and obviously this was not.
Not recommend it,only if you're an Emma Roberts big fan,you like good soundtracks or is a fan of NY City films.
