There's nothing wrong with making typical coming-of-age dramas, nor boy-meet-girl ones, but The Art of Getting By finds not only nothing new in the formula, but fails to bring any point to its making.
However, Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore. nowhere near mediocre actors, find a fine showcase of their talent, but their characters, so thinly written as helplessly boring, help in nothing.
