Review of The Armstrong Lie (2013) by Rodney H — 14 Dec 2013
The movie is really summed up by sportswriter Dan Coyle, "It's not a story about doping, it's a story about power." I certainly don't begrudge Armstrong using performance enhancers.
In a sport where nearly everyone does, enhancement becomes leveling. The man's still and incredible athlete. What's most interesting is his competitive nature which demands that he not lose, whatever it takes; whether that be doping, sacrificing friends, or altering his story to redefine winning and losing.
It's what makes him a superior athletic competitor, but also what makes him dangerous to those around him. The movie takes rather too long making its points, though.
