Review of The Aristocrats (2005) by Trevor G — 26 May 2008
First.. anyone seeing this has to understand what the joke is and what it's about. People who love "shock value" things will find something to like here. The joke tends to get disgusting and vulgar, which is fine.
I'm no prude, by a long shot. But for the sake of a fair review, you have to kind of ignore the joke itself and focus on the intent of the movie. Which was as much to focus on the comedians themselves as the joke they're telling.
The joke is an exercise in personal creativity and delivery. The way a comedian chooses to tell the joke tells a little something about them and what they consider to be shocking or some chose to go the more creative route, surprising those who know what the joke is about and take it down a slightly different path.
The movie was interesting to watch, but almost from an anthropological point of view more than anything. So no 5 stars from me, but if you can appreciate it for what it is, you'll enjoy it. Or if you just like sick and twisted, you may like it a well.
