Review of The Aristocats (1970) by Adam U — 24 Jun 2010
This has been forgotten among the multitude of Disney animated features, but is a solid film for all ages. E.Gabor is purrfect as the classy mother to 3 young kittens and you canâ??t help but love the feline father figure, Oâ??Malley, and his cool cat cronies.
As with most Disney full-length animated features, youâ??ll find yourself humming the jazzy â??Everybody Wants To Be A Catâ?? for days after. I also got a kick from the banter between the farm dogs (Lafayette and his self-proclaimed leader Napoleon), although their absurd chase scenes with Edgar were too Bugs Bunny for a Disney flick.
The quality of the animation is only average as the film was still using decades-old techniques. Parents may find the poisoning and violence towards animals too inappropriate for younger audiences that might not understand itâ??s only a movie.
