Review of The Aristocats (1970) by Deb S — 27 Sep 2010
AristoCats is a terrific Disney classic that is charming, upbeat and has some hilarious moments. It tells the story of Duchess and her kittens who are very pampered in their huge mansion, mainly because their owner is very rich and treats them like they were her children.
When the jealous butler, Edgar, learns that the cats stand to inherit the old lady's entire fortune, he gets angry and sets about disposing of the pets, dumping them in the French countryside miles away from the big city.
Lost and confused, Duchess and her children strike up an acquaintance with a sweet-talking smooth alley cat, Thomas O'Malley (Phil Harris), who agrees to show them the way home. Along the way, he helps them through many dangerous and funny situations until the inevitable happy end.
The young cats create the most enjoyment with a charming young hearted rivalry, while the memorable jazzy song "Everybody Wants To Be a Cat" makes this one an entertaining watch.
