Review of The Apparition (2012) by James A — 17 Jan 2013
Now, I saw this movie having heard the bad reviews in regards to it, so I came into this with expectations being at the lowest possible point. Having said that, this movie isn't all that bad. I'll begin with my complaints; my biggest one being the script.
Some of the dialogue and the horror scenes seemed forced and done without true thought or consideration. To the writers, I can only advise them to take more time with their ideas and see if it helps them develop concepts better.
Now, I never complain about this, but in this film the makeup and hair department really screwed up. I understand that Ashley Greene is a beautiful actress and that is an element to bringing viewers, but when you plaster her up with makeup and you put her hair all stylized, it brings me out of the film, making me think that this actress is a model and not a person in a real live situation.
Now, as for the good, Ashley Greene and Tom Felton both deliver pretty good performances and made me accept their characters on a standard basis, throughout the picture. I also liked certain concepts used with horror elements, which might have been scarier if the script were done better.
Overall, this movie isn't worth a purchase, but if you see it on cable or you have a friend who owns it, it's not as bad as people say.
