Review of The Apostle (1997) by Daniel P — 06 Jun 2007
This movie deserves to be more widely-known. Duvall is astonishing here, and the film's realism is totally compelling. It depicts the religious life of backwater Southerners beautifully, neither Romantizing nor condescending to its subject.
And, had Flannery O'Connor still been alive, I would have sworn that she'd written the screenplay. Don't miss this one.
