Review of The Apostle (1997) by Maxime V — 02 Feb 2008

Bittersweet... I'm not sure I got the message this film conveys... Duvall is great, and his character is very interesting! The question about forgiveness, guilt, and redemption is nicely approached, but what I don't understand is that the preaching he does at the beginning (which is synonymous with shady swindles, adultery, and eventually a crime) is similar to his preaching in the end. Shouldn't he have changed his approach to God?

Anyways, interesting character, intersting scenario, interesting thought triggered!
