Review of The Apartment (1960) by Kevin R — 17 Jul 2012
Shut up and deal.
A local insurance agent has an apartment in the city that he allows the executives to use to have affairs with random woman from the office. The agent meets a secretary in the office and starts to fall in love; however, the secretary is one of the girls being seduced by an executive. Initially, the agent turns a blind eye to the deed which allows him to get promoted and move up in the company; but as he falls more in love with the girl, he may not allow these actions to continue to take place.
"You're pretty good with that racket.".
"You should see my back hand.".
Billy Wilder, director of Kiss Me, Stupid; The Fortune Cookie; Witness for the Prosecution; The Seven Year Itch; Sabrina; Some Like It Hot; The Foreign Affair; and Sunset Blvd., delivers The Apartment. The storyline for this film is emotionally intricate. The cast delivers awesome performances and the conclusion is perfect. The cast includes Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, Fred MacMurray, and Ray Walston.
"In the end you always end up with egg foo young on your face.".
The Apartment was a film I recently wanted to see and a friend of mine brought it into town so I could catch it. I loved the way the plot unfolded and the conflicts within each character. MacLaine delivers a memorable performance and Lemmon plays his carefree turned lover character to perfection. I strongly recommend seeing this picture and adding it to your DVD collection if you're a fan of the genre.
"Some people take and some people get took.".
