Review of The Ant Bully (2006) by Shane H — 08 Apr 2012
This movie is really put together well, it offers something for every age group. There are alot of valuable lessons in the film that should really reach out to young and older alike. Nicolas Cage is the voice of a shaman ant that is trying to invent a potion that will stop THE DESTROYER, a 10 year old boy who takes out his getting picked on my the neighborhood kids on the ant hill.
The shaman is able to complete the potion and sets out to take care of their tormentor once and for all. The potion shrinks the boy to ant size and he is forced into the ant culture to "become an ant" and will not be allowed to leave until he learns teamwork and the value of community.
The voices of Julia Roberts who is Nicloas' wife ant is charged with the protection and education of the boy, and Ricardo Montalban as the voice of the ant elder are perfect for the movie. Paul Giamatto plays the exterminator who was hired by the boys father is coming to destroy the ant hill right as the boy is starting to understand that it takes helping and being helped to get great things done.
They set out to stop the exterminator with the help of the whole ant community and their worst enemy the dragon flies.
