Review of The Animatrix (2003) by Jennifer B — 21 Jan 2010
A collection of animated shorts that flesh, out and take place in the Matrix universe by different animation studios.
"Final Flight of the Osiris" CG animated and directly leading into The Matrix Reloaded and Enter the Matrix. Tells the story of the Osiris discovering the planned attack on Zion and her despirate race to warn the city.
"The Second Renaissance" the back story to The Matrix telling of the origins of the war with the machines and the birth of the Matrix.
"Kid's Story" How Kid from Reloaded and Revolutions escaped from the Matrix.
"Beyond" where a glitch in the Matrix allows a young woman to experiance a few fleeting moments of wonder. My favorite of the bunch.
"World Record" a Sprinter pushes himself to set a new world record and reveals the truth of his world. Not a fan of the art style but plays out well.
"Program" a duel between a resistance fighter and a human traitor set amidst a simulation of feudal Japan.
"Detective Story" A down on his luck private eye is hired to find a mysterious hacker named Trinity and gets more then he barganed for. Black and White, my second favorite.
"Matriculated" A group of humans capture and attempt to convert a machine. This ones kinda weird.
Some good stories and animations. Recommended for fans of Sci-Fi, The Matrix and adult animation (if you wouldn't let your kid watch the Matrix or its sequals then don't mistake this for a substatute).
