Review of The Angry Birds Movie (2016) by Toby J — 28 Aug 2016
A movie based on a mobile game where birds fly into buildings was destined to be flimsy. It felt like any mediocre plot would suffice as long as at some point the birds got angry and were catapulted into some kind of infrastructure.
Considering the limited concept, the story of the birds having to rescue their eggs from green pigs was probably the best premise available. Nevertheless, the dialogue is weak and often resorts to bird/pig puns and Jason Sudeikis appears to put zero effort in the main role.
Luckily a few of the supporting voice actors, particularly Josh Gad and Bill Hader, liven the atmosphere and bring a few humorous remarks. The film studio must have thought they were appealing to many mobile gamers but I imagine that hardly anyone, even 'Angry Birds' players, gave a flying flock whether this was produced or not.
