Review of The Angry Birds Movie (2016) by Movie M — 16 Sep 2016
Why did they feel the need to make this movie? I mean, it's probably the most famous and most successful gaming app of all time, but to make a movie about a popular game, about 5-6 years after it was popular? I guess hollywood is just cranking out movies out of anywhere these days.
Anyways, "The Angry Birds Movie" did very little to convince me that it wasn't just a useless cash grab, trying to bank off the success of the app. It had some nods to the people who played the game, which was cool, but as far as a stable plot, and well-thought humour, this movie crashes.
The jokes were awful, (by the way, there is a LOT of adult humour in this movie that isn't at all well hidden, it's literally as dirty as it can get while still remaining in the G-rating range).
It's also very dragged out, there were a lot of scenes that were unnecessary, and seemed like they were just put in to take up some run-time, because seriously, how do you make a full length film out off an app that most people only played during a bathroom break? I'll give it this, the animation was pretty good, and the world of the Angry Birds was recreated pretty well.
But, in the end, "The Angry Birds Movie" may be decently fun for kids, and maybe if you absolutely loved the game and are just dying to see this movie, but for the rest, it is definitely not worth watching.
