Review of The Angels' Share (2012) by Eric G — 25 Jun 2012
The latest film from Ken Loach still follows his favourite topic around social realism, but, unusually, with a somewhat lighter touch. Angels' Share, while more a drama than a comedy, had me smiling all along with smart, interesting and often funny dialogues.
Characters are compelling and complex, and even though they are not the most honest people, they are nevertheless endearing. The script is well crafted and explores the theme of alcohol in a positive manner, the world of whisky aficionados and collectors, which proves to be a way out for these ex offenders.
Loach makes a point in showing the insanity of a world where the value of things is difficult to relate to reality. Great acting. Heavy scottish accents sometimes difficult to understand!
