Review of The Andromeda Strain (1971) by Gordon C — 23 Nov 2009
This one probably isn't going to be for everyone, but personally I consider it one of the better Sci-Fi thrillers.
I don't work in the field of biological warfare (I just kill people with my trenchant wit), so how accurate the depiction of the scientist's efforts to analyse the "virus" is I can't really say, but it comes across as being a lot more credible than some other films I could name. But won't because I'm too polite (today).
One of the nicest things about this film is that the woman on the team actually looks old enough to have some experience. Have you ever seen that list of "Things you wouldn't know if it wasn't for the movies?" There was one about "If you are blonde and pretty, it is possible for you to be a world-famous expert on dinosuars, nuclear physics, or anything else, at the age of 22.".
Not in this film.
