Review of The Amityville Horror (2005) by Carson K — 26 Jun 2010
Plot: 6/10 - A family of a step-dad, his step-kids and there mom move into a house where a horrible massacre happened a year earlier. The family starts to see things, and soon, the step-dad starts to lose his grip on sanity.
The plot may seem very similar to most horror movies, but it's actually quite refreshing. It's nice to see that they are not just seeing ghosts, but it is actually affecting them mentally, turning the dad into the real horror, and the girl into a creepy person who takes orders from something no one else can see.
Acting: 4/10 - The acting wasn't that great. Most of the scared moments looked kinda fake, and the intimate moments looked even faker. Although, this was only from the adults. The kids did a fantastic job, but it's unfortunate that they weren't a bigger part of the movie.
Script: 2/10 - The script was just the same as any horror movie. Look in a mirror, see something creepy, open the closet, see something creepy, have weird dreams where you see something creepy. It's all just a repetitive loop of seeing something creepy in a creepy manner.
Horror: 5/10 - The first 1 or 2 scares scare the crap out of you, but during those scares, they have the camera looking at the little girl for too long, making her lose her scariness in the first half-hour. All the other scares are just creepy, not scary. Also, like I said before, everything is on the repetitive loop of seeing something scary in a creepy manner.
Interest: 2/10 - Since the movies so predictable and familiar, and not even that scary, you won't find yourself really caring about what happens in the movie.
Grade: 19/50 (38%) = F.
