Review of The Amityville Horror (2005) by Lynn G — 26 Sep 2010
As it turns out, this is probably the best Amityville Horror movie ever made. I know, that's not saying much, but it's also light years ahead of it's original. First of all, it manages to correct some of the mistakes that the original makes.
It's no longer slow and plodding. The pace is tighter without sacrificing any of the tension that living in a house this evil provides. While the cast may not seem as strong as say, James Brolin and Margot Kidder, they actually provide better performances because I don't get the impression they're sleepwalking through the whole thing.
Ryan Reynolds in particular did an excellent job, proving he can handle a serious role. This is a spooky and well made horror film that's one of the better haunted house tales of the decade.
