Review of The Amityville Horror (2005) by Johnny T — 07 Mar 2011
The original The Amityville Horror was one of the worst horror films I'd had the hardship of enduring. But this is among one of the best horror remakes ever made. And excellent acting from Ryan Reynolds especially the way he changes from the beginning of the movie to the end. The film is a terrific scare show, fast and furious, made with a lot of style and energy, packing plenty of jolts yet never lingering morbidly over horrific images. It is anchored in strong characterizations, and its plot develops with chilling psychological suspense. It's such a skillfully made entertainment that its plunge into the supernatural is persuasive even for the skeptical.
VERDICT: "Full Price" - My second highest rating (Positive to Mixed reaction). This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theatre to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent.
