Review of The Amityville Horror (2005) by Iam C — 08 Jun 2013
For 2005:
I can safely say that this remake of 'Amityville Horror' is a clever watch.
The imagery is nightmarish and it is shot that way too.
The original 1979 version was effectively creepy like this version but it still had problems.
Both movies though try their absolute hardest to recreate the terror than went on the house.
Ryan Reynolds plays himself but to a tolerable degree at least until the evil presence of the house starts taking him over more, he perhaps knows that something is wrong but not so much he can't break free of it.
I was in love with Melissa George all the way through, not only is she beautiful but a strong, good-willed voice of reason urging her husband to see the horrifying truth.
Even the little girl played by Chole Moretz get her own part to play, the stuff with the children is always the most effective and scary.
For little teenagers this is a very scary movie with lots of frights and shrieks.
For the general viewers they might want something more up their alley.
This remake and the original movie are about on the same pedestal but they thankfully separate from one another.
