Review of The Amityville Horror (2005) by Mark J — 04 Sep 2018
It was alright remake. Don't think the original was overly great. Both movies have pro's and con's. The original was made in the 70's and had that 70's feel about it, and the house and movie and music for definate was more creepy.
Also James Brolin was more sinister than the wise cracking Ryan Reynolds. Scenes were more sinister in particulary the flies scene with the priest Rod Steiger. But you saw very little. In this remake the movie is much more interesting as you seen much more, the ghost child Jodie, the insanity materializing within George Lutz etc.
Its visually displayed where as in the original its assumed. The rushed ending was a bit weak on the remake. In fact it was disappointing. So all in all the original was creepy but boring, and the remake special effects saturated but more watchable and shorter.
