Review of The American President (1995) by Uditha D — 30 Nov 2011
Right from the uplifting opening music and titles, I knew that The American President was going to be a unique experience. And I was not disappointed at all. I enjoyed every minute of its nearly 2 hour duration, and was thrilled most of all by the onscreen chemistry between Michael Douglas and Annette Bening.
At a time when it was losing out to claims of immorality and corruption, Rob Reiner revitalizes the spirit of liberalism by representing a idealist in the role of the American president. I could not get over Douglas' many quips and witty declarations, and as for Annette Bening, she was funny at times, tear jerking at others, and exceptionally brilliant in every scene she was in.
The other performances - most notably Martin Sheen - were great as well. Overall, The American President is a really good and enjoyable example of a romantic comedy, and should be watched over and over again, for the many breathtaking moments it presents us with.
As for me, I've watched it around 5 times, and am absolutely resolute in watching it many times more.
