Review of The American Astronaut (2001) by Sean C — 31 Oct 2008
This is a seriously fucked up movie people. DO NOT see it under the influence of mind altering subtsances.
If you find characters with names such as "The Boy Who Actually Saw a Woman's Breast", "The Blueberry Pirate", and "Bodysuit" a bit weird, wait till you try to decipher the story line that tries to meld an astronaut from earth who trades in rare goods, an evil professor who can only kill people who he has no reason to, an asteroid saloon, the all-male mining planet of Jupiter, and men who spent their lifetimes serving as human studs for the Southern belles of Venus.
Marvellously surreal, utterly quirky, brain bending.
What else can you say about a film that combines sci fi, western, comedy, and rock and roll musical into a mish mash plot of non coherence?
Gloriously shot in moody black & white, with next to no budget.
It gets an extra star simply for being weird.
