Review of The American Astronaut (2001) by Aimee A — 28 Apr 2010
It reminded me so much of a Kurt Vonnegut novel and that is never a bad thing. This film is so out there (literally!) and the story itself is reminiscent of a B movie. This is a cross of surrealism, spaghetti western, and musical.
Anything that is outer space related and musical is an absolute joy for me. There is so much to love: the really zany characters as Vonnegut could have dreamt up, odd and quirky dance numbers, and the cinematography was lovely for a low budget production, too.
I am flabbergasted at that fact. It's definitely a love it or hate it kind of film. I just adored the sense of humor in this. If Vonnegut was still alive today, it probably would have been his favorite film.
