Review of The American (2010) by Kevin C — 21 May 2011
Really enjoyed this slow film (i love slow films). Got a great 60s feel, and is essentially a Spaghetti western tale. Didn't particularly rate â~Controlâ(TM), but this tale of wandering, sex, drinking coffee and cleaning guns is superb.
This is a better film when little is happening (which is most of the time), because some of the story is clichà (C)d. The kindly prostitute; the hard man with a soft side; the priest who elicits confessions. This can be forgiven and it is a great piece of filmatic silence, and the unrevealing mood of observation.
