Review of The American (2010) by Dave L — 19 Oct 2011
A beautifully shot film from Control director Anton Corbijn with a strong, silent, charismatic performance from George Clooney. Be prepared though as this is a very slow moving film that has a blazing start which slows down to a trickle as Clooney plays the assassin or weapons maker (it doesn't matter which) who goes into hiding in a small Italian town and has to lay low.
It is unfortunately all bit cliched in the end and slightly predictable, plus coupled with how slow it moves will put many people off. If however you love watching George Clooney do nothing on camera, except look good, for a long period then this is for you. Definitely no Michael Clayton.
