Review of The American (2010) by Maria D — 30 Jun 2011
This is purposely slow and mellow and I think the intention was to show the lonely, lack-lustre life of an assassin as opposed to what we usually see - which is the glorification of crime and tragedy. The simplicity of this movie has a soap-opera like atmosphere rather than an authentic one.
But, being a fan of Clooney, I think he was able in this movie (as he was in Burn after Reading) to add substance to a lot of what could be stale and dull stories, stories that without his incredible talent for acting, could not stand a chance.
