Review of The American (2010) by Alex R — 02 Jul 2011
The American is a very interesting thriller that takes the viewer inside the mind of a killer. First off the trailer of this film is very misleading. The film is not an action film, though it has a bit of action near the end. The film is a thriller and more of of a drama film. George Clooney delivers a great performance. The American is a slow paced film of which the story is carefully constructed. Yes, the trailer is misleading, but what you have here with The American is a smartly crafted film with terrific acting. The American had terrific directing, and Anton Corbin knows how to deliver a solid psychological portrait of an assassin. The American is a different type of thriller, and I actually enjoyed the fact that it was misleading into being an action film. There is a bit of action in the film, nut it very minimal, and The American focuses more on being a thriller. A very well made film with a good cast, The American does take time to unfold; but it's still a solid ride. The film is different from the usual "assassin" genre film, and it's a very good film.. The film isn't flawless, but it's definitely worth watching.
The American is one of George Clooney's best performance Syriana. I love the direction that the film took into giving insight into the mind of cold blooded killer, and this will most likely be seen as a classic thriller in twenty years. The American, though flawed is an entertaining, and interesting ride. Worth watching, but the film is a bit slow.
