Review of The American (2010) by Rudy M — 22 Oct 2011
Ugh. Where to start? The morale of the story? How about "Become a hooker, you'll be the only one surviving a pile of crap story involving assassins and mystery men.".
There, I spoiled the plot. Everyone but the hooker (and the priest) dies.
This movie breathes pretentiousness from the cinematography to the dialogue, but fails to deliver at all fronts. What we're stuck with is a boring, slow paced narrative based around characters you never start caring for.
Be warned: once again I have been misled by a movie trailer which pretends to deliver an action/suspense movie. The 90 seconds of action you see in the trailer equals the total amount of action you'll see in the full-length movie. The most exciting part of the rest of the 1h44m running time are the end credits.
Verdict: avoid!
