Review of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) by Jean-Philippe G — 23 Sep 2015
Upon a rewatch after awhile, I realize that I disliked most of the film a lot less than I remember. 1., I knew what I was getting into so lowered expectations helped...a bit. I think this time around I noticed A LOT of potential within the script that was straight up stifled by the things I already mentioned regarding the constipated story telling.
My biggest reassessment is I totally wished this movie was Electro centric all the way through. I just wanted way more Jamie Foxx. The man can squeeze blood from a stone as far as his acting abilities.
If I could get a shot at revamping the script, I would put way more Electro in and keep Harry but slowly build his degrneration over the course of two films. A slow burn introduction within 2, Then pen Sinister Six Pt.
1 focusing on Harry's transformation, unrushed. Within this, I would expand on Rhino as THE main villian with Harry looming in the Shadows as he continued to bring the other Villians to fruition including Mysterio.
In Six Pt. 2 I would focus then on Goblin's continuing expansion of his team of Spidey Villians. Probably, Octavius and Goblin playing the most prominent villians. I would also include brief origins of Cletus Cassidy aka Carnage and Jameson Jr.
. Mary Jane would also make her debut. After that, I would cap off the series with 2-more films: 1, Amazing Spider-Man 3 that focused on The rise of Venom followed by a solo film entitled Venom which would essentially be a triple throwdown where Spidey teams with Venom to take down an evolved Carnage, which I would loosely base on Marvels Maximum Carnage comic arc.
