This superhero phase we're going through is aimed at children and shouldn't be subjected to normal adult standards of criticism in truth. That said, there are still standards nonetheless. This was weak.

Andrew Garfield is nowhere close to Toby Maguire. Emma Stone has this odd pretty but ugly thing going on. Sally Fields is unbearably mawkish. The main story is soppy. The villains poorly written. It's saved by CGI and CGI alone.
