Review of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) by Tom T — 14 Feb 2015
The first The Amazing Spider-Man was a fun yet flawed reboot of the beloved Sam Raimi series, but sadly, this sequel is not much more than disappointing. Throughout the entire running time it felt like the writers were purposely trying to cram in too many plot lines and characters to make more space for the next instalment in the series, especially the final 20 minutes of the film, which not only added one but two more antagonists (which was exactly what everybody hated about Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3), as well as setting up several more for the next film.
The only redeeming points of this movie for me are that the CGI and makeup are superb, as well as some very entertaining action sequences near the end of the film. Once again the acting is fine, but nothing out of the ordinary for a superhero film.
At the end of the day, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 isn't an awful film by any means, but it is extremely flawed.
