Review of The Alibi (2006) by Dane A — 04 Apr 2009
Lies & Alibis is a terrific little comedy about a man (Steve Coogan, who is terrific in this film) who runs a lucrative business for cheating men and women. He hires some fresh new talent (Rebecca Romijn) and takes on a job for his best customer (James Brolin) as a favor.
The favor is Brolin's son (played by James Marsden) who goes off with a girl before getting married and accidentally kills her. Coogan's character works fast to cover it up, but uses people who are looking for favors in return (Sam Elliot, Henry Rollins).
Soon, people are wanting him dead, or wanting favors from him and Coogan is forced to conjure up old habits that he had never wanted to use again. The film is terrific, and very clever, plus there is a HUGE cast of great small-scale celebrities and character actors.
I'm surprised this film hasn't gotten more recognition. Watch it!
