Review of The Alamo (2004) by Songeehn C — 07 Feb 2012
Reviewing My Movie Collection: #5.
A handful of movies that are universally panned by critics and viewers alike end up surprising me. Admittedly, I am a history buff who has always been fascinated by the story of the Battle of the Alamo, so maybe I am a little sentimental and biased ... but I thought this movie was great.
Unlike past renditions of this battle where the heroes were perfect and larger than life, Crockett and company in this telling are flawed and human. This is one of the key elements that makes this movie so great.
Thornton as Crockett was (as expected) what takes this movie to the next level. The other actors all do great jobs, don't get me wrong. The ensemble cast did fantastic jobs and made the battle really come to life ... but the crowning jewel was easily the man in the raccoon skin hat.
Vastly underrated movie that got a bad rap.
10 Scale Rating: 8.0 ...
