Review of The Alamo (2004) by Darren J — 01 Oct 2004
It wasn't anywhere near as bad as the reviews I read. But then again, I watched it at home and not in the theatre which I think makes a huge difference. It's one movie where it's nice to have a pause button.
It is indeed slow. But it's also a historical drama not an action movie. And it's a good historical drama at that. It definitely got me interested in some American history (being Canadian).
I didn't think the battle scenes were that bad. They seemed pretty accurate to me. I am not really sure what people were expecting. Do they have to have blood and body parts flying to be good?
One ctritism I agree with entirely is the music though. It's horrible. It does not suit the atmosphere of the film in an yway. It makes you realize how important a soundtrack can be to a film when you hear one that actually manages to ruin scenes.
