The lines that connect the characters in The Air I Breathe make sense, but sometimes feel weak. I wish I didn't know that this "intersecting lives" format has been done to death, but I do so I saw a lot of the "intersecting" before it happened.

The only thing that saves this movie from being complete and total crap (because let's face it, this script was sadly lacking and a tad pretentious) is the performances by a hugely talented cast. Forest Whitaker is absolutely amazing and accomplishes so much with his character, but it feels as if he's only onscreen for two minutes; then there's Brendan Fraser, who does a fine job dramatically and almost manages to make you forget about George of the Jungle completely; Sarah Michelle Gellar is finally given a chance to act in something where she doesn't play a complete ding-dong or horror movie poster girl and does great enough that I could almost believe she'd get an Oscar nod for supporting actress had this movie not tanked.

If you see it at all see it for the cast, it's the only reason I'm giving this 3 stars. Their work here makes you wish the script had done them justice.
