Review of The Air I Breathe (2007) by Stefan P — 13 May 2009
Just like the two praised films "Magnolia" and "Crash", this one involves several stories with interrelated characters. I won't stretch it and say that "The Air I Breathe" is some kind of unintentional parody of them, but they are definitely playing in another league.
It illustrates the butterfly effect and points out that life is ruled by coincidence, but it fails to say something about the main subjects: happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love. Every segment has a few moving moments, and the ending is great, but if you consider the big picture, all the substance is lost.
Whitaker performs surprisingly well, but overall pretty uninspiring acting. If you haven't seen the two excellent dramas I mentioned in the beginning, I suggest you see them instead of this one.
