Review of The Air I Breathe (2007) by Jay L — 15 Nov 2011
"No emotion, any more than a wave, can long retain it's own individual form.".
~Henry Ward Beecher~.
An emotionally compelling and viciously interesting non-linear drama from first time Director Jieho Lee. A bustling tale of love, pleasure, sorrow and happiness, a film that was actually derived from an ancient Chinese Proverb. Very similar in tone to "Crash" The Air I Breathe is a connect the dots type of film that's simply riveting, an hour and a half of gripping filmmaking that will easily blow your mind. It's dark, it's brooding, it's violent, it's slick, it's sexy and brilliantly executed. If you liked Crash you will enjoy this one as well. A cerebral powerhouse of mind-numbing and electrifyingly awesome intensity, a gritty urban whirlwind from start to finish. It's got a story in it for everyone to enjoy, although it's not for the kids. An ultra- kinetic action-packed/ gangster/ drama/ romance that's magnetic, exciting, visceral, shocking, gritty, stunning, stellar and undeniably exhilarating. An amazingly enjoyable thrill ride that's captivating beyond belief, a film that sucks you in from the very first scene. I look foreward to seeing work from Director Jieho Lee an company.
The cast is great and the acting bearable at the least. Forest Whitaker does a great job. Brenden Fraser is actually convincing. Andy Garcia was born to play a gangster on screen. Kevin Bacon never disappoints. Sarah Michelle Gellar is sexy as all hell and does a great job as well. The cast is big and the talent is overloading in this must-see urban powerhouse drama.
