Review of The Age of Stupid (2009) by Daniel M — 09 Aug 2009
Not exactly a documentary and not exactly a work of fiction, in fact this work should be viewed with an open mind and without a penchant for visuals. Ignore the shockingly bad cgi or the imagery of pete postlethwaites sci fi surrounds, what's important and utterly profound is the message behind this.
There is a mind set the world needs to be in in order to vastly change our environmental circumstances then The Age Of Stupid nails that squarely on the head. The Age Of Stupid philosophises the earth's future as it stands, focuses on recent environmental events and documents the lives of very different people both affecting and affected by climate change.
By weaving this all together the result is not exactly the best paced piece of work, but its certainly a vastly profound and life altering experience. This is the kind of film that makes you look at yourself and ask if you are doing enough and really makes you think could I make a difference? I saw it with a bunch of friends and if its doesn't spark some kind of conversation or debate then you probably fell asleep at the start.
In my personal opinion this should be on every school curriculum, it may be more propaganda than a balanced argument, but it sends the very best message for us, our children and our grandchildren. See it if you can but don't expect entertainment, expect an education.
