Review of The Age of Shadows (2016) by Troy K — 17 Mar 2018

Although it's overly long and could have benefited from exploring the characters a little more, this wonderfully directed film makes up for it with an exciting screenplay full of tension and suspense that not only effectively conveys a sense of what it must have been like to live as a resistant fighter in constant fear of capture, but also manages to find time to address issues such as patriotism, honour and duty, with a few heavy moral dilemmas thrown in for good measure.

The shoot-outs and chase scenes are dynamically shot and truly beautiful to watch -- in fact, the whole thing is pretty darn nice to look at - and the acting is fantastic from a stellar cast. All in all, it's a real treat of an experience that'll have you enthralled, even if it's not quite as emotionally affecting as it could have been.
