Review of The Age of Innocence (1993) by Julian T — 24 Mar 2008
A dialogue-heavy piece with lavish visuals of late 19th century NYC opulence. The upper-crust social restrictions that stifle Newland Archer's (Day Lewis) burning passion for Countess Olenska (Pfeiffer) are well portrayed by Day-Lewis, but do not seem to carry the burden of this sluggish narrative that exceeds two hours.
Shame - it had all the promise of an epic film.
