In all seriousness a well-made piece of droll and uninviting filmmaking. While beautifully shot and scored, it's sad to see Scorsese do what he can with a story that itself mingles within it's plot to flatline whatever life existed before it.

All of the plot elements are thrown at you from the get-go, but they take forever to formally define, leaving you with a sympathy not for the characters on screen, but for the people in the audience sitting here watching this pan out.

"The Age of Innocence" is quite a step backwards for Scorsese, and the wooded acting doesn't help either.
